Process
Mold remediation has several steps from start to
finish in order to
Have a successful remediation. These steps include
pre-testing, setting up
Containments, setting up HEPA filtered air
scrubbers, post-testing (closeout testing)
and drying
the structure if necessary.
Pre-Testing
Pre-testing is performed to verify the nature and
extent of the contamination
and to set the guidelines for remediation. This test
is performed by an independent
mold inspector or industrial hygienist. Once the
scope of work is determined,
environmental barriers (containment) is set up to
contain affected areas from the rest
of the structure.
Tear-out
Removal of contaminated materials can include
drywall, insulation, cabinets, carpet,
pad and other flooring. These materials are bagged
up, removed from the premises
and disposed of properly.
Cleaning
HEPA
filtered air scrubber(s) are used during the
remediation process to process the air inside the
contained areas.
This is used to collect air borne particles
that can’t be seen with the naked
eye.
Cleaning of all materials inside the containment can
include HEPA vacuuming, sanding, and wiping down
surfaces with an antimicrobial cleaning agent.
Cleaning is performed in steps and can usually take
multiple applications to be effective.
Post (Close)-out
testing
Post-testing is performed after all remediation and
cleaning has been completed. The test
results determine whether the remediation efforts
were successful or if additional work needs
to be
performed. The containment is then removed and
drying or reconstruction can begin.
